There are plenty on Twitter calling for his head. Muppets, the lot of them.6 points

Advocaat in his time of charge would have changed it at half time or maybe even earlier. That's my main gripe with Mr Gerrard to date - the lack of subs or the timing of them6 points

I think you are underestimating how many chances Morelos creates for the team. His work rate and hold up play is forever improving. We also missed the drive of Arfield in midfield. The result is frustrating as Aberdeen were rank rotten.6 points

Losing a match we should have won is always going to create a lot of anger. When that match is a cup semi against an average Aberdeen side it's even more galling. We dominated yet Aberdeen created the best two chances, that's the most damning thing. Our inability to carve out a proper clear cut chance has been shown before this season, if sides can defend in numbers against us we're largely incapable of breaking them down currently. That said, Morelos or Lafferty would have made a difference, a fit Barasic would have opened up the left flank, Flanagan simply doesn't offer an attacking threat. I also questioned the timing of the subs. It was clear to me 10 minutes into the 2nd half that we weren't going to break them down, something needed to change. No Rangers player ever made a front post run, our crossing was diabolical and there was a lack of speed throughout, although that was Aberdeen's tactics, stifling space and bogging us down. It could have been different, had Jack played in Candeias instead of shooting he'd have been in on goal with just the keeper to beat. Also, ironically, the bad injury their player took helped them. Candeias was skinning him every time they came together, but he was less effective against the sub they brought on. I don't think it's fair to single out Sadiq, he's barely played at all this season and, it seems, he's not at the standard required anyway. The goal we lost was poor, a simple cross into the box needs to be defended better than that. Our whole team played poorly, our tactics were wrong and our changes, when they finally came, were strange. This will sound primitive but I was surprised we didn't send Katic on for the last five plus injury time and play him up front, we were winning nothing in the air as it stood and something needed to change. It's a sore one, and not entirely unexpected either, we've struggled to create chances in recent matches. In the end Aberdeen played the match to a game plan that worked, we were culpable in letting them. Come January, we need a creative midfielder and another striker, without them we'll continue to stutter when it matters most.4 points

For all the mentions of Gerrard having no Plan B yesterday. I feel it needs to be taken into consideration that yesterday was probably Plan C. If Morelos hadn't have been booked then he starts which is Plan A. He got booked, therefore he was suspended so Lafferty would normally be Plan B. Lafferty was cup tied so Sadiq was Plan C. Was Sadiq a good Plan C? Probably not, Gerrard could maybe have played Middleton through the middle or taken a punt on Grezda. But I think Gerrard seems to prefer Middleton as an impact player in the last 10 - 15 mins due to his pace and directness. He might not have the same effect if he started and I'm not sure what the story is with Grezda. Our squad is paper thin and the number of games and injuries may be starting to impact the team. Hopefully come January we can add a bit more depth which we don't really have at the moment. The future is still looking extremely bright as far as I'm concerned.3 points

I’ve had an enamel poppy badge in my lapel since I bought it in 2014. I couldn’t give a shit whether anyone thinks this was four year too soon or is now four years too late. Too soon? Really, just f*ck off.2 points

The statement doesn't say a lot. Just a beating of the chest. I'm still none the wiser add to why it was a set back for SD.2 points

I would assume that we gave SG a 4-year deal for a reason. We may not like it, but we may very well end this season without trophies again. But we are laying the foundations for success and stability.2 points

Who the hell came up with the mind set of making subs at 60/70 mins (or even later). It's crazy. It was obvious to all that it wasn't working so make the changes. I would have hoped SG would be a proactive manager as opposed to reactionary when it came to subs.2 points

I said on 55 minutes Candeias and Sadiq should've been replaced. It was obvious it wasn't working.2 points

I think we've got a leadership issue on the field. I don't feel Tav is the right player to be captain. I like him as a player however I've not sensed a 'win at all costs' mentality from him or see his as some sort of leader. He's certainly no Barry Ferguson far less a Davie Weir, Richard Gough or John Grieg. I appreciate that captaincy is about more than the 90 minutes on the park, but that's still a vital aspect of it. When things aren't going well I don't yet know who I look too for leadership or to lift that side. I wondered if Goldson might be that player and I think McGregor does offer some of that but his position doesn't lend itself to sorting out players on the park. Maybe Jack will become that person, but he's been so unlucky with injuries and suspensions I still don't know. Gerrard was the ultimate captain, providing inspiration through his play but also through his desire to never lose. You'd hope he could spot someone with similar potential. Maybe it came naturally to him and so he can't understand why everyone doesn't have it. Whatever it is we're missing it and have been for a few seasons now. Finding it would go some way to helping us win the big one-off games again.2 points

After twenty minutes, I was firmly of the opinion that first goal was the winner. Dominating possession, working ourselves and the ball into good areas, gaining numerous set pieces, .................... etc; all laudable stuff, but we did NOT work the Aberdeen Keeper.2 points

Another really frustrating day at Hampden. We were by far the better team but once more we lacked composure in key areas and we're guilty of wasting too many set-pieces as well. Manager also culpable in terms of not changing things earlier. Given the 90mins we'd just played on Thursday, a sub around the hour mark wouldn't have done any harm. I would say that as much as I understand people being upset, it is important not to be too downbeat though. Progress has been made and we needn't throw the baby out with the bath-water. In saying that, a win on Wednesday is vital and the ideal way to increase confidence once more. PS: I thought Sadiq did fine yesterday - yes he probably fell out of the game a bit towards the end but in the first half he quite impressed me.2 points
-
Yes, it's unfair to pin it on Sadiq. Players like Tav let us down yesterday. Normally the guy you can depend on for a spark of quality middle to front, yesterday he couldn't get anything right. More than enough credit in the bank for an off-day, it was just such an important match to have it.2 points
-
I was there bud i saw what he was doing, he wasn't effective without a doubt. But to say he swanned or ambled about is unfair. We didn't get beat for lack of effort from the players, we got beat simply because the whole team was ineffective, as no one could get the ball behind their defense and score.2 points
-
Coulibaly and Jack shouldn't be on the pitch at the same time, unless we're playing a side with better players. Tav should no longer take corners.2 points
-
Gerrard is dreadful at making in game changes. Blame him today he should have changed things up earlier. That aside same issues week after week. Sort the god damn corners out and tell them to drill the crosses when we get out wide and keep them low. This constant floating crosses and hitting the first man is infuriating. Coulibaly is a defensive mid we are wasting him in the position we are playing him. We don't need two defensive mids against teams who sit deep and let us play. Grow a set and get another attacking midfielder in there.2 points

Rangers Reserves traveled to Cove Rangers new ground this afternoon and defeated Aberdeen Reserves, 0-3. Our scorers were Dallas(a double) and OG(I suspect a relative of Angus)? We are the People.1 point

I would need to see it again but when I initially saw it I also felt McGregor had to share in the responsibility of that goal. It was inside the 6 yard box and was between middle to back of the goalmouth - that should be his area to command. He's always been a goal-line keeper, but to me he should have been clearing everything out at that corner. Very harsh on a guy who has been one of, if not the, best performer for us this season.1 point

I haven't worn a poppy since poppy facism first raised it's ugly head; mind you, it's cost me a few bob extra as I still feel obliged to donate as I explain why I wont take one. Shame that people are using what was a great charity for political/tribal ends.1 point

They wont have much of a career anyway if they are prepared to let their own dislike of a former coach dictate their application to their chosen profession. It makes almost zero sense to me. They are playing for other clubs and other coaches. If they choose to not perform at their loan club because a former coach at their parent club is watching over them then do we really want them back at Rangers ? Using Halliday as an example makes little sense to me. He now has a completely different coach to the one he was working under previously, and that previous coach isn't making decisions on his future. Halliday is doing well right now because he trusts SG and SG trusts him - but Kirkwood doesn't come into that situation at all because he wouldn't be coaching these loan players. Its pointless saying "you've never worked under a boss you cant get along with" because none of these loan players will be working for Kirkwood - he is merely watching their development and reporting back to the club. He will be nothing more than an interested viewer at games and, indeed, doesn't even need to inform players he will be watching them. The fear of inaccuracy is if Kirkwood doesn't like a player, not if a player doesn't like him. "If you have no confidence your boss....." - I think you are misunderstanding Kirkwood's role. He won't be the boss of these players, their loan club are their boss unless they are playing for Rangers development squad, and then it will be Murty et al. Kirkwood will be the Loans Manager from a RFC perspective, watching over the players and how they are doing at their loan clubs - he won't be their boss in terms of their footballing development - he will have almost zero hands-on work with them1 point

I was mainly referring to the blame for the loss primarily being put on the striker situation in some comments. Our performance in the final 3rd was very similar to a number of our games this season and individual variables of this game weren't the cause of our failure to create chances and some comments did imply they were. As you said earlier in your post, Gerrard needs to take the blame because our set-up hasn't worked in these kind of games and he's still not changing it or even making in-game changes until the last few minutes.1 point

Thats not strictly true. Sadiq was caught offside how many times, 5/6 possibly more? It got to the point Gerrard was shouting at the player to be more aware and to stop blindly running. Also there were times during the game Sadiq was woefully out of position to the point you didn't know what the hell he was doing. I'm not laying it all at Sadiq's door and like Gerrard said; the buck stops with him. But I'll be surprised if Sadiq starts again for us.1 point

Agreed mate but without Morelos’ hold up play and Arfield supporting runs we look a far poorer team going forward.1 point
-
I agree about Morelos but we have been equally toothless when he has played.1 point
-
All the plans you have outlined revolve around the strikers. We should be able to change the game regardless of the striking personel (including Sadiq). If we made tons of chances and Sadiq couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo you could point fingers at him but we created next to nothing. That suggests to me that the striker option is not the core problem but our failings lie in the way we are set up behind the strikers.1 point

And by the way, I wasn’t a Windass fan but there’s no doubt that we haven’t replaced his goals. And he’s actually been replaced by a central midfielder which has made us more defensive and less threatening.1 point

We are still 2 or 3 players short of being a really good team. Hopefully we can sort that out in January.1 point

That's why we'll never get anyhere. We have to let this management team have time and sort things out over a full season and two more transfer windows ... Then make judgements next season.1 point

I knew right from the moment we signed Sadiq that he was effectively going to be another meme player, like Dalcio before him. From what I saw of him when he was at NAC Breda, he looked nothing special. An insanely average looking player in a bottom half Dutch team. also a diving bastard. What is the statistic now? 5 games in a row at Hampden and we haven't won any of them? We also haven't been to a cup final, nor have we won a cup since Mark Warburton. Every time we go to Hampden we always fucking bottle it. So fucking frustrating so it is. Winning the League Cup would have provided us with a bit of much needed momentum for the rest of the season and we just blew away any chance of us gaining that momentum. Fucking pish. The hunger for a trophy continues.1 point

Jeez. During NIAR, Ewen Chester's scouting centred around the Rothman's Football Year Book and his contacts in agentland. This was one of my pet peeves during the first half of Murray's tenure.1 point

A few things are becoming clear after this match. The attack is heavily reliant on Morelos. We can probably manage ok with Lafferty but Sadiq can't play that role at all. Coulibaly has put in a few underwhelming performances recently. Starting to wonder if this is what we can expect from him. A return to pre-injury form would make a big difference. Flanagan is a good defender but looked like he doesn't have the pace to compete with some players. I'm hoping for Barisic to return as he will offer more to the team overall.1 point

Grezda was surely a better option today? Too many aimless high balls to Sadiq IMO. I also hate the fact that we made reactive substitutions as opposed to proactive changes.1 point

Aye but we look like “blowing teams out the water” all this nonsense about being miles miles better than everyone else except Celtic is just that, nonsense. we dominated play but could have played for a week and not scored. I’m with Rousseau - so glad we didn’t hire McInnes because that brand of football would have me in tears. It’s absolute garbage. We’ve come a long way in a very short space of time under Gerrard, but today clearly shows we have a very long way still to travel.1 point

I would say it's all over the park tbh. We have decent workmanlike players but really miss that something special. Even Kent (who is getting all the plaudits) flatters to deceive IMO. His shooting and final ball are poor. Well pissed off1 point
