  1. Can any Gersnetters see a connection? On Saturday, Cosgrove began the charge on BBC Radio Scotland. He doesn't want Gazza inducted into the Scottish football Hall of Fame. A perfectly legitimate point of view. His reasoning, Gazza is a self confessed wife beater, and these days everyone connected to Scottish football has to share the responsibility of protecting the game's image. Jum Spence popped up on the same means yesterday, reinforcing DrStu's cri de couer and hinting at racism too. If you are interested in searching for what DrStu' and Jimmy Ping have said about Jimmy Johnstone, Malky McKay,Neil Lennon, and Leigh Griffiths on matters of domestic violence and racism, you will be looking at the centre of a dougnut. Thirty years past, DrStu' penned a tome entitled, 'Hampden Babylon'. It was a quick buck making exercise telling the tales of the more salacious side of Scottish football. Child beaters, wife beaters, bullies, racists, ''''''''''''''' etc; they all live on those pages, accompanied by photos. I am sure the Doyen of Scottish Literature will be happy to discuss his observations on Rangers supporters being, "h-u-ns and typical orange wankers"? Further, in yesterday's Herald, the depressed Neil Cameron showed empathy with his fellow sufferers by throwing a particular one under a bus. Neil Lennon can threaten the pregnant women in his life and Cameron will decidedly walk on bye on the other side of the road. It's a simple parable. Today, it's Stephen McGowan of the Scottish Daily Mail; tomorrow it will be Tom English, Hugh MacDonald, Hugh Keevins, ............................. We know it's their collective preferred prejudice, te extent of their comfort is measured by the lengths they are prepared to go to in NOT mentioning current and future inductees.

  2. I'm not sure if Paul was a valid nomination considering he only played just over 70 games in Scotland but the way that this has been handled is shocking.
    2 points
  3. Thing is, Paul is not any more sick today than when he was initially nominated. This is a feeble attempt to deflect from their real reason. We should be told which board members, apart from Liewell, were intent on boycotting the dinner.

  4. This is very much the 'other issue'. Contradictions that don't get called out or if mentioned, not proportionately.

  6. Written by: James Molloy Thursday, 11th October 2018 In a Herald article yesterday where he once again struggled to hide his football allegiances and his hatred for all things Rangers, Z-List "journalist" Neil Cameron detailed footballing genius Paul Gascoigne's many faults. https://www.vanguardbears.co.uk/article.php?i=200&a=neil-cameron-and-the-trio-of-trash

  7. Probably one of the worst performances I’ve witnessed and that’s saying something. Managed to make a piss poor Israel team look like world beaters. Not that we should be surprised with McLeish tactics, plays both Robertson and Tierney and both out of position.

  8. He asked a black guy at a gig to smile so he could see him. Now in my mind that 100% depends on how it was said as to whether it was racist. Black people are comfortable with being black and being referred to as black. If it was meant to demean the guy then it’s racist for sure and should be condemned. If racism is the reason for the action they should clearly state it and we would all understand but then they have to also justify why they payed Griffiths (convicted racist) and McKay. In fact they would have employed Griffiths tonight if he hadn’t told them to feck off. Noone can have any dispute if HOF nominations are subject to moral considerations and if they then reject gazza on that basis but the SFA have to do it in a consistent way with reference to organisational values and codes of conduct. They can’t just make it up as they are going along and issue vague statements which kick a mentally ill guy when he’s down.

  9. I've just seen McLeish's post match interview. He said it was a game of 2 halves. I agree. Both halves went to Israel

  10. They can revoke it but they shouldn’t include health (and in this case it is clearly mental) as the reason. And if they use other rationale such as wife beating or criminal imvestigation or racism then they need to state that. They then need to explain why they employ a racist and why a convicted racist is paid money for footballing services to them.

  11. McLeish should never have got the job in the first place. Israel (94th in the world rankings) had over 30 shots at goal and McGregor saved us from a hiding tbh. There is a decent bunch of young players there but they have given the job to the wrong man. To think there was talk of him coming back to Ibrox not long ago?

  12. Just read this after I put my own comment in. So mentally ill people are excluded. F**k me ?

  13. .........Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill said Kyle Lafferty cited an Achilles injury when he withdrew from the squad on Sunday to rule himself out of two crunch Nations League matches....... ....."Kyle had an Achilles problem, we knew he had an Achilles problem in September," O'Neill said. "He felt that it was in his best interests that he didn't travel because it gives him the opportunity to stay off the Achilles and that's the reason for him withdrawing from the squad.".........

  14. I really hope this links okay... I've heard Gullit speak about Cooper before. For those too young to remember Gullit as a player he was one of the best footballers in the world for a time, which is why his words carry some weight. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/45824290

  15. Neil Camerons article in the Herald is nothing more than diatribe dressed up as a polemic. The article is chock full of logical fallacy coupled to a complete lack of self awareness and false concern that its bordering on parody. The Herald used to be considered a decently written paper that could challenge many a broadsheet but this type of tabloid rhetoric shows a lack of qualification toward the subject of which it studies. The above line is delivered completely without irony. You mean like you are Mr Cameron by taking payment for this diatribe? As I've stated above its not a cleverly constructed polemic questioning the Hall of fames selection criteria its simply a hatchet job on a person who clearly has mental health and addiction issues. Disgusting!

  17. It's one that always sticks in my mind and not just for the atmosphere after the comeback from 0-1 behind. With no away fans the silence in there when McAllister scored after barely a minute or so was almost eerie.

  20. Fair enough if someone thinks Gascogne wasn’t a good enough footballer to merit a place in Scotland’s HoF but to question his inclusion because of his family issues or his nationality is as good a reason as any for doing away with this nonsense altogether.

  21. Using that UEFA site, you can compare players playing in the EL playing in the same position Compared with the Second Coming (Tierney) JT 1st KT 37th Does that make Tav worth about 2Bn ?

  24. Nothing to do with his past but I don't really think he did enough for Scottish football to deserve getting into a hall of fame. Rangers hall of fame maybe but not the Scottish. My idea of a hall of fame obviously far higher than the SFA's. I never even made the Gersnet hall of fame.

  26. Generally speaking,....... - think the Scottish Hall of Fame should be restricted to Scots. - many H of Fs are diluting value by including too many so as to make more money. I don't know if it is still the case but Blackpool FC restricted each decade to 5 individuals.

  27. "It's a massive club and it was an easy decision for me," he told Rangers TV. "The recognition you can get playing for Ranges is huge. "I like to get on the ball as much as I can, get forward and create goals." Tav July 2015 One of the few times when the first interview is bang-on. ------------------------------ IMO, he is the best signing the club have made this decade.

  28. It's not really worth doing so: firstly it's unlikely they'd accept and secondly, they're not going to admit they've been wrong to a few random Rangers fans. I do speak privately on occasion to some journalists and whilst those conversations are polite, I don't think there's any mileage in taking them public as there's not usually much different than we already know.

  29. These are the type of players we should be signing: young players here to develop & sell on then replace. Like Ajax do. Unfortunately whilst we are in the impoverished Scottish football we cannot do anything else

  34. Yep, he would be a great addition, as would be Ejaria and even Coulibaly - as of now. They grew into the sides, have their off-days, but the talent is clearly there. But one of the main things is that by the looks of it, SG and Co. know how to teach them to become better and/or consistent. Same with Middleton, whom I admittedly would like to see more often. But results so far show that SG seemingly knows his stuff.

  35. Like any winger/creative player he can flit in and out of games but I'm enjoying watching him as because he seems to be two-footed he's unpredictable and tricky to defend against. If he can improve his finishing and final ball then he could be a very, very good player.

  37. It's a question of balance. Twenty-four years we have suffered the constant regurgitation of 'Off the Ball'. There is a repetitive sadness in hearing a man in his sixty-eighth year attempting to recall guests, happenings, and stories. DrStu' is a Doyen of the Arts these days, the author of a trilogy on fifty year old soul music. BBC Scotland presents several opportunities each week for DrStu' to promote his wares, and increase his bank balance. He has admitted to pocketing almost fifty grand per annum two years past for presenting Off the Ball. Of course, it's the exposure provided that allows the other earners; that and his broadcast admiration of BBC Scotland Director, Donalda MacKinnon and wanting to be heard being the very epitome of a Bute House toady. He is most protective of his position, and this ensures he will trap continually to face Tam Cowan in the PQ studio. DrStu' never has any problems recalling his preferred prejudices, he hates Rangers, "h-u-ns and typical orange wankers", and the English. These days, he hates a lot more carefully. Tam Cowan put forward the reasons why Gazza was being put forward for entry into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame. DrStu' was not convinced, "these days we must be more aware of issues like violence against women". Protecting the reputation of Scottish football is a legitimate view, but is undermined by DrStu's constant support for things Neil Lennon. Two well reported cases several years apart where Lennon threatened the women in his life; texting, 'you will feel pain' and, 'I will kill you' were the highlights of numerous threats. DrStu' promoted Lennon for the national manager's job. He did add that McLeish should be ignored because he had an EBT. Didn't Neil invest in those film companies to avoid tax, and if morality is what keeps DrStu' awake at night; Neil entered into a land purchase with Slab Murphy. Interestingly, the one prominent member of the Scottish football glitterati that has not appeared on, 'On the Ball' is Chris McLaughlin. His presence was not required on Saturday, in terms of balance. Three guests, John Douglas, Eddie Reader, and Paul English. All Sellik supporters, including another sixty-seven year old, Hugh MacDonald on during the evening edition. Paul English is a PQ staffer, he had his centenary Sellik top with him, in the studio. Tam asked if he wore it during his interview to secure his BBC Scotland post? BigStu' asked if he had scared Kenny McIntyre with it? Further, he explained the panel thus, "it's a balance thing, after Kenny McIntyre had Barry Ferguson and Alex Rae on". Rae has worked for Radio Clyde since the start of the season and Ferguson last appeared last year, before announcing bankruptcy. See how DrStu' isolated the last Rangers supporter staffer in Beeb Scotland's sports? DrStu' loves a cleansing, right down to the Warren Cummings accent test. BBC Scotland, for DrStu' et al, it's a Bank Balance thing! Sunday was as expected. Big Dick, Paul Hartley, Peter Houston, Paul Mitchell, and Chris McLaughlin; all at McDairmid Park furra visit of ra Sellik. The ever excitable Rob McLean was across events at Ibrox. It started badly for Rob, and got worse. Chris intervened to interview Brenda, because as stated, "I don't like to keep Brendan waiting". The next couple of hours saw Rob's part condensed to a few lines(teams, half time and full time reports at Ibrox). The Sellik game concluded and Tommy Wright was interviewed several minutes later. Just before the football coverage finished, Chris interviewed Brenda again and it was announced that it was his last Sportsound participation. Apparently, Brenda was happy to be kept waiting? The Beeb mantra over the weekend by all the usual suspects was, 'Hearts could be eleven points ahead of Rangers by five O'Clock on Sunday". After Five we were told Hearts remained top of the SPFL, mouth watering anticipation of Sellik vs Hibs was articulated, Aberdeen were finding form, and Livi' continued to surprise. How many points Rangers were behind Hearts, is like the word, 'coefficient'; lost in the ether of broadcast.
