Yesterday was more of the same for license fee paying Rangers supporters. PQ's live coverage of Killie/Sellik began at midday and went all the way until eight minutes to three. It was the full bhuna furra Bhoys. Big Dick, Liam McLeod, Pat Bonner, Gary Holt(for a semblance of balance), and Chic Young doing pitch side. Before and after the match, Chick interviewed both managers, Stevie Clarke and Brendan Rodgers. Teams and substitutes were read out, speculation on both sides' formations and styles of play offered. Live commentary was augmented by Bonner's and Holt's insight. Table positions read out and both sides' next opposition mentioned and speculated upon. At quarter to three, Hugh MacDonald and Tom English were introduced and immediately they joined in on the crisis being experienced by ra Sellik. They agreed that Hearts were the beneficiaries, Hibs and Aberdeen would be relieved at the Rugby Park result too. Tom rattled on about ra Sellik's annual wage bill of £60 million and concluded the Board were backing Brenda. Hugh dismissed having pants on his head with two pencils stuck up his nose, Sellik had recently battered Rangers, again! However, there was mild alarm. Big Dick had to interrupt to allow Rob McLean to begin being across events at Ibrox. The man who groaned his way through both Rangers equalisers in Spain, read out both teams at eight minutes to three. He did not mention subs and there was no speculation on formations or styles of play. In fact, being across events ended at the teams. Big Dick, Hugh, and Tom began talking rugby union. Over the next two hours, the three Amigos talked tennis, rugby, and golf. Their was a several line half-time report from Rob that announced Rangers were on easy street. The last update was the Saints penalty. Big Dick vented some angst with, "Rangers will move into second position on goal difference. Still, they remain five points behind Hearts". We did NOT receive a full time report because Craig Connolly(Ryder Cup Caddy) had joined the crew and was regaling the trio with golfing vim and brio. The Producer ran the show until five O'Clock with no further mention of the Rangers game or final scorer. After the five O'Clock news, the girl providing the Sports Report mentioned Candeias had scored Rangers fifth in a 5-1 victory. Further, it appears PQ no longer calls the opposition manager post match. Being across events means both teams being read out, a short halt-time report, an occasional haphazard update, and the final result being broadcast in the hourly sports report. ......... and still they continue to take our monies for little to no service.5 points

The longer we're successful the harder this will be for them. If Rangers and Hearts are still first and second in a couple of weeks time they'll look ridiculous covering rugby and darts while that match plays out at Ibrox. I suspect Hearts fans won't be too pleased at not getting a commentary to listen too either. Yesterday's coverage was a disgrace. Rangers and the BBC should both be trying to find a resolution to this. I don't need Richard Gordon's approval, I don't care what Tom English thinks of us, but I do deserve the same coverage as every other side. I have no other choice, no other broadcaster provides radio commentary. I think the SPFL is the next organisation that should be made to explain this, they control the contacts for broadcasting and currently the BBC aren't fulfilling one.3 points

100% agreed. One game at a time for me. Just keep drumming into the players the importance of winning. If we do that, the rest will look after itself.3 points

Is there a more iconic image of a Rangers player than the one of Alan Morton in full flight? It's used on that 100 years poster and it's just one of those wonderful images that captures something special. Photography is an art form and that image, right leg fully stretched, left leg as high is can go to control the ball, both arms outstretched for balance, captures the essence of the player and all that's beautiful about football. There's movement, artistry, concentration and timeless quality to it. The light blue of the jersey, the style of boot, the perfect timeless haircut, that heavy ball and the fact that you can see other players but not make the out, the photo is all about Morton and his dynamism. You can tell he's small from the photo, which helps you conjure up his personality and his courage. Images of the Colin Stein in Barcelona, Gasgcoine, arms bent in front of him, numerous images of McCoist, Hateley wheeling away after that header against Aberdeen, Papac in Florence in front of the support are all great images, but that one of Morton, a player most of us never saw and some will never have heard of, just embodies something special. I just love it.3 points

Write to the SFA and complain that you cannot get radio coverage of your team and explain the situation and the regurgitated lies from the BBC and ask they intervene. Get a petition going for the SFA and SPFL asking them to remove the contract from the BBC and give it to an able bodied provider or seperate rangers from the deal and allow seperate coverage. At the least it will bring the conversation to the forefront.2 points

The common perception is that the PQ boycott is a Sports Department thing. I think the Sports Editor is Jeff Webster, like his old man who had a column in the Herald for a dozen years, Jack Webster; is a Dandy Don. When he presents on the occasional Sunday, I find him most fair on all things Rangers. Richard Wilson is behind the scenes on minor sports, but is largely regarded to have withdrawn himself from the constant conflict with the usual Rangers hating crew. I think the same will happen with Darryl Broadfoot, his interventions on rule changes ran interference with those that want Rangers blamed for everything. I think the various usual suspects broadcasting get away with it, because there is a coterie of Producers allowing/facilitating the current continuing behaviour. The Director General of Beeb Scotland will have to get a grip, because the new BBC Scotland 2 Channel, I believe to be largely a news/documentary set-up? The Editor of said new channel will be James Cook. Yep, that one who admitted deliberately altering an interview with McCoist, to make it look like Ally did not take sectarianism seriously. Both he and his Producer admitted and apologised after Rangers complained. Of course, Cook(an Arab) was rewarded with a massive promotion, he became the BBC's North America correspondent. He is returning to the new role and his first appointment as an Anchor, is Martin Geisler(A Jambo). Cook, as Editor will have considerable freedom to enact another rite of passage. The current behaviour is simply unprofessional, and they don't care.2 points

As much as I am pleased to see Celtic dropping points, let's pump on the brakes. 6 matches have been played and I for one won't be penning their obituary just yet. They will get stronger (they can't get worse, can they...?) and if this malaise continues they will have to spend money in January. Their fans will demand it, especially on the back of some triumphant balanced sheets and the sale of Dembele for £20 million. Let's forget what they are doing (or not doing) and take it one game at a time. We've managed to claw back the points we effectively dropped away to Aberdeen/Motherwell/Them and for the first time in ages are above them. Let's just keep the momentum going with another win at Livingston next week as IMO momentum plays a massive part in winning leagues.2 points

I thought Lafferty's finish yesterday showed the composure you want to see in your strikers when faced with only the goalkeeper. Good to have him aboard.2 points

A realistic assessment for me. The Livi game will be tough but if we get through it with a victory and carry that through to when we face Hearts I will be a lot more convinced that we are finally back to being the real deal. We had leads at Aberdeen and Motherwell and just failed to see the game out. If we can sort that aspect and win ugly when we need to that'll do me.1 point

Hearts had a penalty saved and hit the woodwork twice on Saturday. They also beat Celtc. Something we have failed to do since we returned to the top flight. We are in no place to be getting cocky. You can't feel superior to a team who are above you in the league. The league, so far, suggests all teams will drop points and have off days. That includes us. We should be happy with our European performances but concerned with our away league form.1 point

We haven't won away and Hearts are unbeaten, so things have got to give in our next two league matches. I wouldn't bother too much about the yahoos. As Whosthedado said, just focus on ourselves.1 point

We just need to worry about ourselves I think. If we can go on a run it will hopefully pile the pressure on1 point

No, they don't care and frankly, neither do I. Not a single jot. I enjoy this thread but if it didn't exist I would be utterly unaware of the PQ farce. However, surely it's not beyond the wit of Rangers fans to devise something a little more influential than hidden commentaries of a few online forums. For example, without putting anyone in actual jeopardy, could you mobilise (say) 25,000 signatures on a petition, pledging support for the suspension of TV licence payments pending changes at PQ. Of course petitions don't ensure change but it would at least provide a basis for publicising the ongoing conduct of the BBC in Scotland. There are dozens of ways to publicise it too. I can't imagine many people connected with Rangers not wanting to sign. Whether this or better ideas, the point, surely, is to poke the bastards in the eye rather than making a noise where they can't hear it or can deny having done so.1 point

We all know it's not uncommon and I just found a classic example. Feyenoord v FC Utrecht. Feast your eyes on this.1 point

We're 5 points behind Hearts and haven't won an away game yet. Although things look promising, I don't think we should be jumping the gun.1 point

I have £50 on us at 8/1 I got pre-season. I am currently being offered a cash-out of £81. Previously there was only the nominal £45 cash out (stake less 10% which is normal for ante-post betting) The tims were indeed between 1/10 - 1/12 pre-season. I'm not getting carried away with being above them at this very early stage, as nice as it feels. Having listened to updates and reports from tynecastle on Saturday, Livingston play a long-ball physical game with a very solid defence and very well organised. This will be a very tough away game on Sunday which we MUST win but will need to play very well to do so. Not forgetting we have not won an away game yet, and our 2 poorest performances to date have been in our last 2 away league games. If we come through this, we have table-topping Hearts at Ibrox the following week, a few days after Vienna at home in the Europa. Come back to me after 2 more domestic victories and I will be more than happy!1 point

Yep, re KilIie I was only referring to the post-2007 era and the "banning" of TBB and FTP add-ons. If they weren't in Europe after that, UEFA would have had no issue with them. Then again, UEFA is an issue for themselves when it comes to dealing out punishments ...1 point

Great post John. I could not agree more. It perfectly captures the "wee blue devil" and the artistry that embodied that era of football,1 point

Kilmarnock have had 9 European campaigns and only in one have they been put out at the first hurdle. In the late 60's they reached the semi-finals of the Fairs Cup (Europa League equivalent). ---------------------- Let's not shoot ourselves in the foot. We need to stop singing those songs and add-ons.1 point

I see what you are getting at but bottomline, points are the whole story. We need to start winning away games (and maintain our home form when better teams come calling). With the European matches, it won't be easy and a lot will depend on keeping enough good players fit. But have to say, I'm looking forward to the challenge.1 point

Nice to see a pipe band at Ibrox again. I love pipes before games. Reminds me of some of my early Hampden matches back in the day.1 point

It's beginning to look like the end of the Roman Empire over there, they have well over extended themselves financially and it's starting to bite them on he arse. Massive wages and financial liabilities from their latest accounts. Not to forget massive compensation claims coming down the legal pipeline for the historical child abuse claims, Take your pick from the usual apologist, BBC, Daily Rebel, Radio Synde for the next Nero, as Rome burns.1 point

I'd say that the fact it was the only game they could motivate themselves for says something about what is wrong over there.1 point

Lafferty is already showing signs he’ll be an important player this season in terms of goals. Such finesse in that finish. And on the back of another instinctive striker’s finish on Thursday too, I think we’ll see plenty more of it.1 point

Best not to get carried away yet but what will be interesting if we keep this up is to watch how Celtic and especially their manager handle pressure ... something they've not had to cope with for many years now. I suspect that entire club has got too used to being handed a bye to every trophy on offer but those days have clearly gone now. I expect them to make bold moves in the January transfer window but that might only exacerbate what is clearly an unhappy dressing room.1 point

Well done, the Wolves. Compo, you’ll be too young to remember the radio commentary when their wingers Hancock and Mullen destroyed Honved and Spartak in the days when those two teams wereEurope’s best?1 point

“I have been lucky – lucky in those who were around me from the boardroom to the dressing-room. In time of stress, their unstinted support, unbroken devotion to our club and calmness in adversity eased the task of making Rangers FC the premier club in this country. “To be a Ranger is to sense the sacred trust of upholding all that such a name means in this shrine of football. They must be true in their conception of what the Ibrox tradition seeks from them. No true Ranger has ever failed in the tradition set him. “Our very success, gained you will agree by skill, will draw more people than ever to see it. And that will benefit many more clubs than Rangers. Let the others come after us. We welcome the chase. It is healthy for us. We will never hide from it. Never fear, inevitably we shall have our years of failure, and when they arrive, we must reveal tolerance and sanity. “No matter the days of anxiety that come our way, we shall emerge stronger because of the trials to be overcome. That has been the philosophy of the Rangers since the days of the gallant pioneers.” We should play an audio of this before every home game on the loudspeakers. Will make the hairs on your neck stand up1 point
