Thank you Murty! You did your best and stepped in when the club needed you. I hope you remain at the club but if you go, I'm sure we all wish you the best of luck.7 points

I'm confused.... After Sunday's result, many folk were wanting Murty out the door immediately. Now that it appears to have happened the club is now "amateur & classless", yet if he had stayed on it would have been poor leadership by the board.7 points

I can't help but feel sorry for the guy. I'm not excusing him for any of his tactical choices (or lack of) in some of the recent games, but the fact is, he stepped up to the mark to take charge of the mess that was left after Ped was removed from the post. And the mess that was left after Warburton left. Yes, he was out of his depth, but the performances by the players recently haven't exactly helped his cause either, not to mention recent, badly timed statements regarding his position by the board. And after it all, it appears that he's been hung out to dry by the club as well and has probably (although it has yet to be confirmed) lost his job too, meaning his livelihood is at risk. Despite his 'fame' (infamy?) he still has bills to pay like you or I. This might not be the popular opinion on here, but I'll say it anyway; I'd like to thank him for the work he did over the last few months - regardless of the way things have ended up (a win over Them at Ibrox a few weeks ago and these conversations could've been vastly different) - and I hope he manages to get himself back into work soon and pick himself back up.6 points

Well said. Murty has gone, the sniping should stop here.5 points

What's the point? If the board/management say anything then we will just complain about what they say. Actions speak louder than words.5 points

It's staggering really, almost incomprehensible. They've wiped the floor with us for years, seen us reduced to a shadow of our former status and yet they remain utterly obsessed with Rangers. It's as if Rangers surviving the shitstorm of recent years has hurt them more deeply than anything we ever did on the park.4 points

Am I the only one who has sympathy for Murty? the guy was asked to take over and is now getting slaughtered! I don't think that is right, I have to say I don't think he should get the job, however the guys has done his best and doesn't deserve the amount of attacks he is receiving! I actually think we should be thanking him for taking this on!. Also, does he still have a future at Rangers? he has always said he will continue with the youths after this but is he now a target for so much abuse can he just go back to the youths and carry on after all this? I do hope so.3 points

If Sutton is saying that then it will be Gerrard removing himself from contention. Sutton hates ANY positive news about Rangers, so wouldn't be overly keen on confirming his appointment.2 points

Well thank goodness it has finally happened. Like others I thank Graeme for stepping up and giving it his best shot to steady the ship, but the length of time he was asked to manage over was outrageous and is entirely down to bad decision making from the board. He should have, at most, seen us through to the end of December, with a new manager ready to take us to the USA in January before having a go at the title in the second half of the season. Clearly our board believed the Scottish Media and that the tims were untouchable for the title, gave up any hope of chasing them down or applying any pressure to the ego-maniac to see what he is made of, and fudged the decision to down the line. Replacing the interim with another interim with 3 games to go smacks of sheer desparation and a total unpreparedness for the shambles that we could all see unfolding since Luxembourg. Good luck to Murty, I hope he is not damaged too much by being thrown to the lions before he had developed any managerial capabilities, and I hope he bounces back to a good development manager or assistant manager at another club next season.2 points
-
That might send out a completely wrong message about squad discipline, and risk undermining both the interim manager(s) and the new coaching team, this latter eventuality presupposing, of course, that there will be any of the current squad left after season's end.2 points

It is frustrating, but I'd rather they took their time with an anouncement, than put out a half-arsed one, like they have been recently. The anouncement linked above isn't too bad actually. At least it seems to suggest that Murty will be given the option of his old job back, so at least he won't be completely cut adrift. Whether he accepts it or not though...2 points

I feel very sorry for Murty , a very decent guy who was an excellent academy coach who never asked for this , yes he played the game and maybe thought he had a chance but the reality was he was always plugging a hole in the dyke . so yet another decent guy loses his job because of the incompetence of this board and even more so our joke of an MD , who should be sacked on the spot and replaced with Leanne Dempster .2 points

He came agonisingly close to a good result at Ibrox. Morelos’s miss was absolutely bizarre. Celtic had one chance and they took it and then parked the bus. When a team parks the bus the man disadvantage doesn’t make as big a difference. Could have been so different if events had gone differently that day.2 points

Since Sunday's five zip thrashing, Rangers have said nothing. Nature hates a vacuum, step forward the Blessed Brendan and his belief Rangers have thrown Murty in the garbage. Amazing foresight and penetrative thought by ra Sellik manager, or was there a quick call from inside Ibrox yesterday, allowing Brendan to make the accusation? It's Rangers, and it's another clusterfcuk. Do the lines of communication between the Board and other parts of the club work? Are the lines of communication within the Board open, and working? We must achieve second place, and the Board have charged a Chinese Parliament of Pedro, Graeme, and A N Other to achieve said aim. We appear to have nobody willing to grip the situation.2 points

If Murphy had said something definitive, it might be worth more attention. What he said was in parts positive and in others left up in the air. Whilst his mate is negotiating, you wouldn't expect anything else.2 points

When given the job until the end of the season, Murty literaly got spruced up, put the suit on and pretty much seemed to decide that this was an opportunity opposed to the very short-term stopgap he'd been before. Prior to that, the warning signs were there in GM's reaction to defeat at Dundee. It was unusual and awkward watching him struggling to hold back tears. God knows what the players made of that. The board apporinted Jimmy Nicholl in what I considered to be a smart move to bolster the man-management aspect of the coaching team as they went over to the States for a Winter trip. It certainly didn't do any harm when you look at how the next 2 to 3 months went. Happy players were scoring goals, winning football matches and making many think that Murty might actually be the answer. At that point Murty enjoyed the praise. He was a manager who in two games against Celtic hadn't been beaten but it was that opposition who would show how fragile the current set-up actually was. It showed that our dressing room was splintered and Murty didn't have any control. No leadership anywhere, just a collection of individuals doing their own thing, badly. Murty isn't a person who should be immune to criticism but he is far from the only one and IMO he shouldn't have been given the extended gig in the first place.2 points

A thread about problems at Ibrox and therein lies several disagreements and futile bickering. That tells its own story.2 points
-
He definitely doesn’t deserve abuse. He never asked to be thrust into this situation but, for the good of the club, he has done so twice. He should be commended for stepping up when someone was needed. He does, however, still deserve criticism where due.2 points

Here's an interesting opinion from Eamonn Dunphy ... questioned by a not-so-open studio chap: One thing Souness and Gerrard have in common is their experience as "managers". I would assume having Gary McAllister about will help, and who knows who will stay on too?!1 point

The look on SGs face when asked if he was going to be the next manager speaks volumes....he couldn't help but smile.1 point

Not a "loan ranger" said Lineker before quizzing Gerrard straight away. Gerrard said he'd had positive talks and would be picking them up on Thursday. He - quite rightly - would be pushed no further but seemed pretty relaxed. He and Lampard ended the conversation with big grins on their faces but it's clearly not over the line. Lineker was very positive about the club and opportunity. Gerrard agreed but said talks were ongoing (in effect) and to be picked up on Thursday.1 point

This begs two questions, even if just for the sake of asking them... 1. If all managers have been pro players, how is it possible to assess the feasibility of managers who haven't been players being successful? How do you assess something that doesn't exist - and if it doesn't exist, how do you use it to justify the need for playing experience? 2. Is there any evidence that it is being a pro player that provides successful managers with the ingredients they need for that success? Or would they have been successful anyway for other reasons?1 point

So, SG is apparently questioning what resources he will have at his disposal....sound like normal negotiations to me. There certainly didn't seem to be anything in Murphys comments to say that he wouldn't take the job...1 point

and folk wonder why the board don't issue more statements..... Can't remember what AJ said, but clearly the manager situation has changed since then.1 point
-
Agreed. If you have nothing to say, it's best you stay silent. Too often the club have come out with clumsey statements that are designed to placate the support in the very short-ter, opposed to having any real effect on events. Regards the aftermatch interviews, there have been rumours of why that decision may have been taken. It would certainly seem as if something out of the ordinary happened for a 'lockdown' decision to have been made. As an aside (relevant or not), I don't think Jim Traynor is the man that Rangers should have making any such decisions or writing statements. He isn't up to it and his apparent output comes accross to me as generally angry reactionism that doesn't work, opposed to having a base in intelligent thought.1 point

Sorry again , but that's rewriting the past again, McCoist came out in the press and slated C Green even going as far as to say the fans shouldn't trust him , with in a week he had been offered 1 million share at 1p each ( way way below the issue price ), quicker than you could say " cash that cheque " he was back in the papers and Tv telling fans everything was ok and to buy season tickets . As for his reduced wage , he was paid every penny that was in his contract , every single penny , yet he makes out like he was a martyr.1 point
