It strikes me that we're seeing the Walter Smith guide to rebuilding Rangers. Get a core of experienced, better Scottish players, from down south or rival SPFL sides, add some other British players in as well and then supplement with exciting continentals and emerging youngsters. In his 1st transfer window, the January one, he signed Weir, Ehiogu and Kevin Thomson. Then in the summer he signed Naismith, Broadfoot, Cuellar, Dailly, Whittaker, Steven Davis, McCulloch, Beasley, Darchville and Cousin. They strengthened a squad already containing Ferguson, Boyd, McGregor, Hutton, Hemdani, Papac, Novo and Adam. We don't have the money to do exactly the same thing but guys like Murphy, Docherty, Jones, Kenny McLean and Kevin McDonald along with possibly Naismith, help achieve a similar thing. Supplement that with a couple of wily French players coming to the end of their careers and I'll expect us to make the Europa League final next season. PS, whilst I'm in fantasy mode I also want to see us make a move for Steven Davis again. He's got 18 months left on his contract. Contact him now regarding a summer move, offer the captaincy and a future coaching role at Rangers. He's 33 now so he's probably not got another big move left, but I suspect he'll not be short of suiters if Southampton don't offer him a new deal. Davis is the type of player who can play until for another 3 or 4 years easily.3 points

McLean would be a perfect fit for them, from both his perspective and theirs. Says all you need to know about him and that club !3 points

I think I had said I would look into doing it Ian. I will take a look this evening and see if I can sign up with my UK address on behalf of Gersnet3 points

So he didn't deny they were paying Pena's wages in full. He just stated the figures mentioned were false - which isn't the same thing. Scottish sports 'journalists' really are awful.3 points

He is/was I believe our best attacking midfield option. His knack of turning up late into the box and getting onto the end of things is hard to teach. Yes, he seemed to struggle with the pace and aggression of our game, but I dont believe he got a run of games to fully let him get to the pace of the game, yet his goals return for his limited time involved beats everyone else who has played in that slot by some distance. If Murty wasnt going to play him, and we use the wages saved to finance good acquisitions, then fair enough.3 points

Craig doesn't look unlike Andy Bell actually and I am a big Erasure fan so happy to be compared to Vince Clarke.2 points

I don't think that Pena got much of an opportunity to display real application, real committment, real improvemnt, or real quality. The fact that he scored 5 in 8 should be a clue to his actual ability, and to what he might offer to the team. But, you know, he was a fancy Dan fanny merchant foreigner, so tell him to sling his hook, and take his poncho and sombrero with him. The way forward, as it is known.2 points

Yeah, it's something we've discussed but just not had time to explore properly. I need to pop in and speak to Colin before one of the next games to see what's involved. Would be good to try and help out.2 points

I have asked before, but would it be possible for Gersnet to act as an agent?,think it would be good for Gersnet!2 points

Many Gers fans right now are looking for the silver bullet that just isn't there.2 points

I think you're right, and it would help, but these red top rags are just giving their readership what they want. What Celtic fan wants to read about the good things going on at the club? These people don't care if it's true or not. Celtic fans (and others too) want to read this because it's a fantasy they wish was true. As long as they want to read this crap, there will be an organisation out there willing to give it to them. I did a quick look back over the past two years on our Gersnet pages. I've counted 118 instances of made up stories we've discussed, and I wasn't looking that hard. Note that this didn't include any transfer speculation. This just proves that our club is what all fans want to talk and read about. Their primary interest is entertainment, not facts. I don't know what the answer is, but that's the environment we're operating in. I'd like to think our PR team could do a better job though.2 points

Like I said elsewhere, I would've kept Pena -- decent goalscorer from midfield, if nothing else -- but I can understand why letting him go is best for all involved.2 points

The Winter break couldn't have been timed better for us with the injuries piling up and with this window conveniently thrown in to strengthen key areas i'm encouraged. No disrespect to Fraserburgh but that too could hardly have been hand picked better as a first post break competitive match. Following that we then have the chance to inflict a third consecutive defeat on the sheep to retake second place. Get that done possibly even with Cummings taking some of the pressure off young Morelos and we could slip into cruise drive. I find the prospect of a Cummings/Morelos spearhead to be mouthwatering. A 21 and 22 year old with unlimited energy spearheading the attack could bring an avalanche of goals. As has been mentioned it's been unfair to burden a young guy like Morelos with the entire striking load. And given that opposition defences have had him marked out as the danger man leading to heavy marking two such danger men spreading out the markers opens up all manner of possibilities.2 points

Some will no doubt be suggesting that recent coaching recruitments are "jobs for the boys" as has been suggested in the past. However, if you look at the appointments of Vignal, Lovenkrands and Thomson they all have their coaching badges. Not sure about Vignal but Lovenkrands and Thomson both have their A licences which actually makes them more qualified than the vast majority of coaches within the Academy of both us AND Celtic. Seems to me that the Club are, rightly, starting to follow the Spanish route whereby the best, most qualified coaches (A license and pro license) are the ones entrusted to develop the children - the vast majority of A license coaches in Spain coach the kids whereas in the UK the vast majority of A license coaches actually coach the adults which, in my opinion, is virtually pointless - too late by that point in time to "teach old dogs new tricks". Get the best coaches teaching the kids the proper techniques and develop them into how to understand the game and do the basics perfectly.2 points

Thankfully. Hope he does well at Charlton...one London club I don't mind.1 point

Both KT and Vignal will be working with the U13 to U15's. My kid has a gym session at KT's house on a Monday night along with another kid who is a Pro Youth at St Johnstone - and I know that the parents of that kid see massive benefit and improvement in their kid's game having sessions with KT. That age group is perfect for KT IMHO, having seen the development of my own kid (who is 13) over the last 6 months.1 point

Probably a housebuilder. Muir, if memory serves, was known, in no way inaccurately, as 'The Enemy Within' when he was LBG's swagman on the Board at Ibrox. I can't see him, or his backers, being in it for the glory of Charlton Football Club, quite frankly.1 point

I saw nothing to suggest he "wasn't for applying himself", or "wasn't particularly interested or bothered in applying himself". I saw him laughing and joking, fitting in with teammates in training, and working hard on the pitch. He's lost his touch, though; his control is terrible; and not the quickest. As TB said, his goals-to-games ratio is superb, and his knack of finding space is second-to-none. And 'short-gate' ( ) is just a made-up story; nothing in it at-all. It took me several views to see what people we up in arms about.1 point

I would obviously be one of his trusted advisers and could give Gersnet exclusive scoops from the Club1 point

Docherty would make much more sense (if the fee wasn't prohibitive). Arfield is 29, would want a big wage and wouldn't have much resale value potential. Given the difficulty of securing serious European revenue in the short-term, we could do with making something out of player trading.1 point

It's hard enough watching us play league and cup games domestically, so I certainly wont be watching kick-about friendlies in the middle of the night. As always with these matches, all I want is for players to get some match sharpness, but above all else NO INJURIES! I dont care about the score or how we play, those are fairly meaningless. As for those who are spending a small fortune to go out and watch these kickabouts (about a dozen from my RSC are out there just now), nutters the lot of them with more money and annual leave from work than sense!1 point

That’s one of the reasons I set up this discussion; as a reference / library of fake news stories as I had noticed them ramping this propaganda up last year.1 point

Murtys reign alone we have had some silly results (Hamilton, Dundee, Kilmarnock, St Johnstone). Just 2 wins there and we would actually be in with a shout of winning the league from absolute nowhere.1 point

I'd love it if KT eventually got the managers job in the next 5-10 years.1 point

Nepotism, cronyism, whatever..... Kevin Thomson cozies up to This Man Craig, and 'Presto!' he has a job at Auchenhowie. Do they think that we are fools?1 point
