It did, but there were a few fans writing in fanzines (Follow Follow and No1) and on forums (Follow Follow and even here on Gersnet) warning of the impending unravelling. Those who dared question Sir Duped or show any criticism towards him were attacked, lambasted, "shouted down" by fellow fans (no coincidence the same happened when some started questioning the current incumbents). When fans started to show their displeasure against SDM at games, they had flags / posters ripped from them by fellow "fans". When a small band of fans protested outside the main doors, they were spat on, verbally abused and chased by fellow "fans". Then SDM praised the "attackers" on Rangers publications even though they were singing the recently banned Billy Boys as they chased the protesters. I sometimes wonder (for a few seconds) where those fans are now and how they feel given how it all played out. This subject took over my life for a while, attempting through Fanzines and other platforms to change fans minds. If you want to bore yourself to death, plug Cammy F Rants into the Gersnet search engine and you'll find some of the stuff. I wish I was wrong about SDM and I wish I was wrong about the current incumbents, but sadly I (and others) were spot on.

I've not read the entire thread and whilst I agree with the club and fans pointing fingers at the UB for silly banners (their displays are usually well thought out), has anyone addressed "the elephant in the room" regarding the reappearance of The Billy Boys? The club specifically mentioned "songs" in their statement and this is not a UB issue, the majority of fans in attendance sang The Billy Boys. The singing of this song (and others) has already resulted in sections of the stadium being closed and will do again of it continues. Will the club and the wider fan base use the UBs as a convenient scapegoat if this were to happen?

Wouldn't say constantly rebuilding, but constantly strengthening certainly. I.e with the Gerrard era, when we won the league, we should've strengthened, but the board gambled, and much of that gamble lost us our manager that year by not backing him, effectively. We need to be constantly looking for the next best thing.
-
Give us your earthshattering alternatives then
-
Yes, and it won't result in league success for thise clubs. Neither will it result in exciting matches. It won't and neither should people posting "play the kids" be a justification either. The stupidity of such posts is a topic in itself. Now we are optimising for outside interest? Good luck selling matches against even smaller clubs to foreign audiences! Good idea.
-
Jesper Christiansen - singed for £1M and had played a handful of games as a keeper after previously being a striker. Think he played for us twice.
-
Not true - see SG era. And as said above, a club like Rangers should be in a constant state of rebuilding.
-
First league reconstruction thread for you?
- Today
-
T.V money will decide so it's pointless to put any thought into it imo.
-
Aren't we "rebuilding" since Caixinha?
-
And that right there is why there will be no league reconstruction in Scotland. Most clubs require Rangers and Celtic visiting them 2 or 3 times a season (hospitality, ticket sales, etc).
-
This season they changed the format slightly. 14 team league = 26 games. The split then comes in - top 4 play each other home and away so teams play 32 games in total over season. Points post split are added to points pre split to determine champion and european spots. Teams 5 to 8 play in their own mini league (32 games in total over season). Points post split are added to 1/2 points pre split. Winner of mini league gets Conference League place. Teams 9 to 14 play in their own mini league (36 games in total over season). points post split are added to points pre split. Bottom 2 are relegated. Translating this to Scotland, only 2 other teams would play OF 4 times. Most teams would only play OF twice.
-
Weirdly, you think the teams added would be beaten easily, yet some of them have decent cup runs, defeating current SPL teams in the process. It would encourage player development and many fans would like to see this, in fact, I read on here constantly that we should play the kids, in a 16 or 18 team top flight, there would be games we could play "the kids". Either way, we need to do something as Scottish Football is a backwater with little interest outside of Scotland. It's also hating itself to death, but not much us fans can do. Just another example of pay up and shut up.
-
I'm glad you added that final sentence. Before that it was all too altruistic.
-
What about sixteen teams gives you thirty games once completed first plays third second plays fourth then a grand final at Hampden to be champions
-
aye that was a poor manchester derby
-
I think that a larger league will bore you in a different way. The extra teams added to the league will be beaten easily in many cases. If not then it will be because they play very defensively. I don't know why anybody would think a larger league would encourage player development. I don't even care to find out though. Nobody should ever structure a league to improve player development. Nobody buys a ticket to watch a player develop.
-
As usual.
-
That's the ideal, I agree. We've not had a proper DoF model to really implement that, frustratingly.
-
The majority of our support have no stomach for a rebuild, it has to be a quick hit, or nothing.
-
So far it’s been 47 minutes of boredom from Old Trafford.
-
The final straw was a long time ago.😀
-
OK, I'll indulge you. Because the current set-up is boring. Playing the same teams 4 to 6 times a season is boring. I think a lot of football fans will have the same opinion. I'd also say that the current set-up doesn't encourage player development.
-
I suppose the television companies will have a big say in any change
