Rangers confirm Kevin Thelwell as new Sporting Director

Fair points but how do you see the current board being able to stop the decline, start to progress and then become sustainable and successful? Didn't one of the board basically admit in a recent interview that without new investors, the club would stall / stagnate? I'd argue we have already stalled and stagnated. Other than fresh investment what else can happen to reverse the decline? I'm sure you aren't happy being 2nd best for the foreseeable future no matter who's in control? -
Up until around 1965. Anything after that can be accurately described as bad. Even when successful, after 1965, the un-Struthian nature of it all turns the stomach.

Hipster p*sh! He should have been on my list on the other thread. He isn't on the bookies list, surprisingly. - Today

We came out of 9IAR with no net debt and cash in the bank. It was only after 1997 that the spending went crazy.

Seen Roger Schmidt mentioned on twitter, i'd probably take him. -
Aye, I think so. The financial naughty step.
-
Was it not around that time we had a member of Lloyds bank sitting in at board meatings
-
Spot on. The only time we succeeded anywhere near within our means in my lifetime was around big McLeish's time, in terms of player budget.

If I remember right, this is a fan made mock up from when the Umbro rumours came about. Not the new home kit.
-
Not sure if it's accurate but I quite like it.

Jose is about as far on the complete opposite end of the spectrum of what we require, as you could go. We need a system, ie sporting director, coaches etc, that work towards development every bit as much as it does working towards success. Which definitely isn't Maureen. -
Havent really seen the lad Mulligan but our track record of taking players from Dundee isnt bad. John Brown, Nacho Novo, Claudio Caniggia, Glen Kamara....

Agree Scott, I have a feeling for Palace as Villa have played a lot of big games recently. An Aston Villa v Man City final would be the better fixture but Villa v Forest would be my preference. A more balanced game could be Forest v Palace though.
-
It has been poorer this season. The better sides to watch have been Villa, Newcastle, Bournemouth and Brighton - when those 4 play well its good attacking football. Its been a bit similar to when Leicester won it when so many teams had a bad year despite how good Leicester were. But next season I still dont see Man Utd or Tottenham recovering to be top 6. If Amorim stays and gets 3 or 4 first XI players of his choice they will improve and Tottenham have to change manager and add some quality - Big Ange relationship broke down last year when he criticised the Spurs support for wanting to lose against City.
-
That was my first top, and I like it

Here and in general. If you're not seeing any cheerleading then maybe you've become inured to it. I don't think there is any comparison between the current board and SDM. Whatever failures they have they own them. I don't have the same hatred for our board that some seem to harbour. Whatever their faults I'm more comfortable with them than whatever venture capitalists we've got coming next. I know, i'm an inveterate loser who is happy finishing second every season. -

I think that will be right though I’d prefer Villa v Forest. I admit to a concern that Palace might already be engraved on the Trophy. I don’t want that to happen.

Which years would any of you say are the "glory years", and which years would any of you say we were "properly run", and finally do the two line up?
-
I agree, we do, but I would be very surprised if he was coming in as the first choice full back. He's young, Scottish for European criteria, free to sign and low wages, experience of the Scottish league, exactly the type of squad player we should be looking at when our 1st choice could/should (Delete as per your preference) be leaving this summer, and the backup spends more time in the medical department than the doctor.

Yeah I know that compo, I’m saying there is loads of people mentioning his name 🤣 I’m 110% not for it, Hope all is well m8
